Argentina: Remaining barley surplus for crop 2021/22 estimated close to 1 mln tonnes
Export licences granted for crop 2021/22 in Argentina to-date are for 2.4 mln tonnes of feed, 0.8 mln tonnes of malting barley. The remaining surplus is close to 1 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their May report.
After a sale of 2 cargoes of FAQ barley to China at a reported price of US$410 C+F, markets went up to $430 without further business.
Early forecasts for crop 2022/23 are for an increase of acreage to 1.265 mln ha. A production of 5.3 mln tonnes seems possible, leaving an export surplus of almost 4.0 mln tonnes.
FAQ barley exports, principally to China, are anticipated at 2.6 2.8 mln tonnes. New crop shipments of 520 thousand tonnes have already been licenced. New crop prices equal the old crop levels, local sources report.
